Law Enforcement

Western offers a variety of in-service, advanced, and specialized law enforcement training classes. These courses provide the essential skills, knowledge, and resources necessary for law enforcement officers to stay current in your training.

Our Law Enforcement courses and programs offer you the opportunity to enhance and sharpen your skills in the areas of investigations, patrol, leadership, survival, and many others. Training courses incorporate realistic and practical approaches from experienced instructors.

Law Enforcement Academy

Dates: Feb 9-June 11, 2026
Time: 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (Fitness at 4:30)
Where: Western Public Safety Training Facility – Sparta
Cost: $6,050.00 per person
Application Deadline: Applications accepted until filled

The Law Enforcement Academy prepares you for entry-level positions as a law enforcement officer at the municipal and county level. The program is limited to sworn law enforcement officers who are being sponsored by their department and pre-service students who meet all of the requirements.


Instructor Training - Instructor Development Course

Dates: Tuesday-Wednesday, March 3-4 and March 10-11, 2026 (ALL four days are required attendance)
Time: 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Where: Western Public Safety Training Facility – Sparta
Cost: $250.00 per person
Application Deadline: Friday, February 20, 2026

This 32-hour course prepares criminal justice instructor-candidates to create a learning environment that supports learners. Competencies include planning and managing learning, training and evaluation methods and delivering teaching scenarios. This curriculum is endorsed by the Law Enforcement Standards Board and is required of instructors seeking LESB certification. This is a pre-requisite course for all LESB approved specialized training courses.

Basic Jailer Academy

Dates: April 20-May 22, 2026
Time: 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Where: Western Public Safety Training Facility – Sparta Campus
Cost: $1,900.00 per person
Registration Deadline: Friday, April 3, 2026

Whether seeking the education to obtain an entry level position as a County Jailer or are already employed by a County agency, Western’s Basic Jail Academy offers students high-quality training through classroom and scenario-based instruction.

Scenario Instructor Course

Dates: Tuesday-Wednesday, April 28-29, 2026
Time: 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
Where: Western Public Safety Training Facility – Sparta
Cost: $125.00 per person
Registration Deadline: Friday, April 3, 2026

This 16-hour course, taught by a Scenario Master Instructor Trainer, prepares instructor candidates for certification as an LESB Scenario Instructor. The course includes scenario training, testing and force-on-force safety and training techniques. Must have completed the 32-hour CJ-IDC course before attending, OR be a currently-certified LESB instructor, and have 3 years full-time experience.

Handgun & Rifle Instructor Course

Dates: May 18-28, 2026 (No class on Mon, May 25)
Time: 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Where: Western Public Safety Training Facility – Sparta Campus
Cost: $550.00 per person
Registration Deadline: Friday, May 1, 2026

This course provides basic LESB Handgun and Rifle Instructor Certification. In this class, students will master basic firearms competency skills, identify and correct problem shooters, development range programs and skill enhancement programs, and perform agency policy assessments and improvements. Content includes use of Mini red-dot sights (MRDS). Must be a current LESB-certified Instructor seeking additional certification in a new topic area.
