Peer Wellness Coaching | Western Technical College

Peer Wellness Coaching

Focused around the 8 dimensions of wellness (Emotional, Physical, Intellectual, Occupational, Social, Environmental, and Spiritual), Peer Wellness Coaching gives students the opportunity to reflect and have supportive discussions about their wellbeing with their Peer Wellness Coach. Every student faces challenges in college. This program is centered around each student being knowledgeable about their own wellbeing, and with a little support/resources, students can then decide what is best for them.

All Western Peer Wellness Coaches are NASPA-certified and have completed extensive training in wellness principles, campus resources, mindfulness, and more. We offer one-on-one sessions that are free for all Western Students.

Note: Wellness coaching is a program for currently enrolled Western students who may be self-referred or referred from a campus partner. Individuals who are not Western students are not eligible for wellness coaching.

What is a Peer Wellness Coach?

Wellness coaching is…

  • Focused on holistic health & wellbeing.
  • Centered on the participant’s strengths, interests, and personal goals.
  • Uses principles of motivational interviewing, goal setting, stages of change theory, positive psychology, appreciative inquiry, nonviolent communication, social cognitive theory, mindfulness, and self-determination theory

Wellness coaching is not...

  • Personal training
  • Mental health therapy
  • Mental health assessment, diagnosis, or treatment.

One-on-one Sessions

The length of the one-on-one sessions can vary depending on the student’s specific needs. Meetings can be in-person, or virtually (via Teams/Zoom). Students can view Peer Wellness Coach availability to find a time that fits their schedule.

One-on-one sessions will be offered through the Fall/Spring semesters.

After completing the interest form below, the Student Wellness Coordinator will be in contact with the student to get them matched with a Peer Wellness Coach.

Peer Wellness Coaching Rules

  1. Attendance - Our Peer Wellness Coaches have a limit to their availability and we ask that student participants attend all scheduled meetings. If you need to reschedule a coaching meeting, it is your responsibility to email your wellness coach at least 24 hours before the meeting.
  2. Inclusive Space - We offer opportunities for all people to exchange ideas, share experiences, and achieve personal fulfillment. This pursuit of wellness is a right afforded to everyone, regardless of identity or ability. We have a collective responsibility, between coaches and participants, to foster a culture of mutual respect, courteous interactions, and equal opportunities. Through our programs, services, facilities, and staff, we are committed to cultivating and upholding an inclusive environment in which we celebrate the differences of every member of our community. All are welcome in this space, and discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated.
