Western Acquires Narcan For Campus Safety, Residence Hall

LA CROSSE, Wis., March 23, 2023 – Western Technical College’s Campus Safety department and Residence Hall recently acquired Naloxone (Narcan), a medication used to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.

Western received 10 doses of the medication through the “Narcan Direct” program with the La Crosse County Health Department. During a recent staff meeting, Campus Safety officers and volunteers from the Residence Hall were trained to deploy Narcan in the event of an emergency. Two doses are now always available in an officer’s medical kit and at the Residence Hall.

“With the prevalence of dangerous drugs and the threat it has to the health and wellness of Western's campus and the surrounding community, it has been great to equip our Campus Community Safety Officers with another tool to enhance their preparedness if faced with a situation involving an opioid overdose,” said Chris Schuster, Director of Campus Community Safety at Western.
