LA CROSSE, Wis., December 11, 2017 – Western Technical College was recently awarded a $268,680 grant to further support student parents through on-campus child care services.

Western received a CCAMPIS (Child Care Access Means Parents in School) grant through the U.S. Department of Education. The money received in the grant will fund 100 percent of the annual operating costs over the next four years at the La Crosse YWCA Child Center. The facility is located on Western’s downtown La Crosse campus, at 419 9th Street N., La Crosse.

“Student parents having access to quality care will help to increase college completion and educational attainment rates, household income, as well as positive outcomes for the children who receive early childhood education services through the program,” said Quinn Walraven, resource development specialist at Western

Co-location with Western also provides an opportunity for students in the Early Childhood Education program to get hands-on experience in a child care setting.

The YWCA Child Center provides full- or part-time care for children ages six weeks to 11 years old. The facility is open to faculty, staff, and students, as well as the general public.
