Electronic and Computer Engineering Technology (Western Technical College) and Computer Science (University of Wisconsin – La Crosse) National Science Foundation S-STEM Scholarships

The Electronic and Computer Engineering Technology Program at Western Technical College and the Computer Science Department at the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse has been awarded a National Science Foundation S-STEM grant of $597,000 to support scholarships for full-time students studying computer science and computer engineering technology over the next four years. The program will start awarding scholarships in the fall of 2009 and will support 10 freshmen, 3 sophomores and 1 junior during the 2009-10 academic year. Students in good standing may continue to apply for this scholarship as long as they continue to be enrolled full-time in ECET or Computer Science. Additional awards will be made in subsequent years.

Students attending Western can be awarded up $5,000 each year. Students attending UW-L can be awarded up to $10,000 each year. Award limits depend on financial need.

Students who complete the electronic and computer engineering technology program at Western with a 3.0 or better average can transfer to the UW-L computer science program through the 2+2 program. Students who transfer as part of the 2+2 program can retain their scholarship and while attending UW-L are eligible for the higher award limit.

The program will also support various cohort activities including travel to a regional conference for each scholarship cohort as well as external speakers and mentors.

Students who are accepted or enrolled full-time at Western in the Electronic and Computer Engineering Technology Program are eligible for a scholarship of up to $5,000 per year while attending full-time. Those ECET students who apply and are accepted into the UW-L Computer Science program after receiving their associate’s degree may eligible to continue receiving a scholarship of up to $10,000 per year.
