Fresh Start Program

The Fresh Start Program provides childcare funding to young, single parents so they can have the opportunity to enhance their quality of life through post-secondary education.

The purpose of Fresh Start is to provide young, single (never married) parents with the opportunity to complete their Western education. We will assist students with childcare funding for their children at accredited/licensed daycare centers. A mentor is assigned to each single parent for ongoing guidance, support, and companionship.

Eligibility (determined on a case-by-case basis)

  • Single (never married) parents whom are under the age of twenty-four.
  • Have received a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Are financially unable to obtain child care funding during periods of enrollment at Western Technical College.
  • Have custody of their children.
  • Reside in La Crosse, Jackson or Juneau County.
  • Agree to complete eight hours of parenting or relationship courses.
